Puerto Banus

The brainchild of architect Jose Banus, Puerto Banus is the luxury marina area of the upmarket resort of Marbella situated in the Spanish Costa Del Sol. Particularly well known for the glamour and glitz that it exudes, this beautiful destination is filled with the finer things in life, all appealing to the crowd that descends during the summer months, mooring their yachts in this most upmarket of settings.

With almost five million annual visitors the appeal of Puerto Banus is undeniable, and it remains a high status resort with perfectly formed streets filled with luxury designer boutiques, world class car dealerships, and restaurants that pay homage to some of the world’s very best cuisines. Don’t expect anything but the very best here, nothing is subtle and the stakes are always high, but when it comes to quality holiday destinations this Spanish delight is in a class of its own.

The marina area of Puerto Banus is mainly filled with retail and dining establishments with the local hotels lining the streets beyond, and whilst there is certainly no shortage of luxury options all befitting the high class status of the resort, finding somewhere to cater to the more limited budget entails travelling well beyond walking distance from this luxurious area.

Hotel H10 Andalucia Plaza offers a great location just a few minute’s walk from the buzz of the marina yet surprisingly manages to maintain a reasonable price, the rooms are small but perfectly formed with a minimalist modern feel, and the hotel boasts facilities that include a spa and a lovely outdoor pool. If car hire is an option then travelling a few kilometres away from the marina at Puerto Banus opens up many possibilities, including the highly recommended Hotel Los Monteros which consistently receives fantastic customer reviews.

As you would expect in such a discerning resort the food is pretty special too, top quality restaurants line the marina at Puerto Banus serving everything from the tastiest Italian to the exotic flavours of Mexico and Cuba. One of most renowned of these restaurants is Ikni Banus where Spain meets Scandinavia, the clean crisp interior with the palest of high quality wood creating the perfect backdrop for the finest food elevated to a new level with innovation and attention to every last detail.

If it is authentic Spanish tapas that you are looking for then head to Calle de Ramon Areces, lined with authentic tapas bars this is the place to enjoy larger platters of the best grilled seafood, always cooked to perfection; be sure not to miss out on the very best of the regions delicacies and order a bowl of chilled gazpacho soup, the heavy tang of the freshest tomatoes and garlic remaining as a lasting memory of this amazing resort.

There is no disputing that the main draw of Puerto Banus is the glamour of the marina, perfect for the retail experience where anything you desire can be bought in quirky boutiques or the finest of designer stores, and where everything from Gucci sunglasses to a Rolls Royce can be purchased for those that have the means; when you’ve had your fill of this high class lifestyle, then why not head to Marbella old town for an altogether quainter shopping experience.

The nightlife in Puerto Banus is also quite special as the marina comes alive after the sun sets, choose from cocktail bars with skilled cocktail waiters preparing the best cocktails imaginable,, elegant lounge bars with the subtle strains of jazz and lounge music soothing you through the night, or head to one of the amazing nightclubs that sway to the beat of world class DJ’s. Whatever your idea of great evening entertainment, this resort delivers and always leaves you feeling content.

Puerto Banus enjoys year round sunshine, much of which comes from its great Mediterranean location sheltered by the mountains that keep temperatures higher than the norm for the region even during the harsher winter months.

Much of July through to September the temperatures remain in the 30’s although this heat is tempered by low humidity and sea breezes, rainfall is also rare and 11 hours of sunshine daily are to be expected; the crowds descend during these months so if you wish for a quieter experience the spring and autumn months are perfect with spring particularly enjoying long sunny days. November sees higher rainfall but generally once into winter the weather remains mild and gives the perfect escape from the damp coldness of home.
